Energy Hub’s Mission

Energy Hub is a center where UW-Madison students can explore, discuss and take part in the future of energy.

Energy Hub (eHub) was established in Fall 2007 as a student organization at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with the mission of creating a forum for students of all academic disciplines to learn and share ideas about energy issues, including both technology and policy discussions. eHub has since grown to over 500 undergraduate and graduate student members and has hosted numerous events on campus including expert lectures, social events, and energy infrastructure tours.

The annual energy conference is typically the largest event of the year and draws about 200 students, industry representatives and invited speakers for a series of panel discussions and lectures focused on a central theme. Conference themes have been: renewable energy, energy issues associated with transportation, modernization of the electricity grid, and general energy literacy. eHub-organized tours have included a nuclear power plant, a wind farm, a natural gas combined-cycle cogeneration plant, and a biomass-fueled boiler system serving a cheese factory (this is Wisconsin, after all). Energy Hub is 100% student run and is supported by energy industry sponsorship.

eHub exists to connect students and student organizations that have an active interest in energy issues. By linking organizations with a common focus, we hope to make energy events and information more accessible to students, and provide a forum for open discussion of energy issues.

We also aim to connect student members with professionals in the energy industry. This serves to encourage the transfer of ideas between academia and industry, as well as linking students with future career and internship opportunities.
