| SMART Cookout appears on front page of Daily Cardinal |
The SMART Cookout was a great success. Here are some stats:
• 1,200 ears of local sweet corn shucked, grilled, distributed and composted.
• 5 bushels of local apples distributed (each bushel is approx. 42 lbs, we estimate this was around 750 small apples).
• WE CONSERVE reports that the compost from the event weighed in at 1,000 lbs!
• Tons of students joined student groups like Energy Hub, Engineers Without Borders, REthink Wisconsin, and FH King Students for Sustainable Agriculture.
• REthink Wisconsin FILLED their REFILL Program Pledge Board.
• Tons of signups for the WE CONSERVE “I Pledge” Program.
• 35+ student volunteers, multiple sunburns.
Thanks to volunteers from WE CONSERVE, Energy Hub, Engineers Without Borders, and REthink Wisconsin for helping make this event a success! Let’s keep working together, it was fun and productive.
Thanks to Heck’s Marketplace in Arena, WI for growing, picking, and delivering the sweet corn. Thanks to Ten Eyck Orchards in Brodhead, WI for the crisp, tart apples (and the nice apple boxes – these were immediately re-purposed as corn bins). Thanks to Sologear in Middleton, WI for the sample FlameDisk charcoal alternatives – we did most of the grilling with LP grills, but your product worked great!
Thanks to Kevin Myers (an Energy Hub member) for taking so many nice photos of the event!
